In a recent article we read about the benefits of managing working hours, the author (Brad Stulberg) cited Adam Alter, who recently wrote a book about the draws of technology and steps we can take to de-prioritize it in our lives. One of the suggestions was to increase your mindfulness of your phone usage and deliberately choose to do things without your phone on a daily basis. For example – take a walk or a hike and leave your phone at home. Make dinner and enjoy the evening by leaving your phone in the bedroom and not checking it. In other words – if you are out for a hike and have your phone, your tendency will be to use the phone to take pictures versus just allowing yourself to wholly become immersed in your surroundings. Disconnecting in this way allows you to re-engage with the world around you and stimulate your senses. This week our focus is on becoming more mindful about our constant connection, and focusing on disconnecting for specific periods during the day.
